Meikle, J. (2011. April. 11). some dentists seeing patients too often, say health officials. Retrieved (2011. April. 25). From Guardian.co.uk. http://www.guardian.co.uk/society/2011/apr/11/british-dentists-breach-contracts-appointments

Summary:

This article discuses that some dentists break the rules of seeing their patients regularly. The department of health in England suggested prolonging the time of the patient’s appointment, so for adults should check with a doctor each two years instead of one year. Also that is going to allow children who have teeth problems to check their teeth regularly. In addition, adults have a chance to check with a doctor every three months if they have a serious problems; also people who are not have risk problems can check with a doctor every two years. Furthermore, the department of dentists asks the dentists to have new equipment to promote the quality of taking care of the patients.

Reaction:
I believe that the article was written very well by the author, so I enjoyed reading it. I was happy to read this article because there are many points that the author discusses. For example there are some dentists who see the patients more often because they want to check their teeth; also, some patients come to the doctor so often because they want their teeth examined before something happens to them, such as gum disease, or catch the problem early before it accrues. However, I think the author should tell what exactly the problems are that make dentists viable to check regularly with adults. Is that because the department of dentistry wants time for the new patients? Or they just want to make certain time for special people. I think these are some questions that the author should speculate about. In the end, I would like the author to mention some of the rules that the department of dentists requires for some clinics; also, I want to know what he means by “people with factor health problem.

Tougher teeth coming. (1967, Aug, 4). From: Time Magazine http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,837175-1,00.html

Summary:

This article discuses the tougher teeth coming. Many people in United States suffer from teeth problems. It boils down to this: people are careless about their teeth, so if they use a toothbrush or the mouthwash they will protect their teeth from the bacteria. Researchers show that water fluoridation is not as useful to protect the teeth from a decay as they thought, but they found a new different way to protect the teeth, which is using a piece of plastic to cover the teeth and save them from the Bacteria. In addition there are some researchers who suggested another idea to keep the teeth saved without any decay. In the end the technology is helping the dentist by providing them a new material that is going to help them in future to deal with the patients.

Reaction:

I was happy when I read this article because my major is dentistry, so this article helped me a little bit to understand some new words that I should know in my major. First, the author mentions some good points. For example that people should be aware about their teeth and should brush them every day; also he said that water fluoridation is not really helpful to save the teeth. But I think fluoridation is very helpful because it makes the teeth safe and protect them for a long time. In addition, the author did not explain how the thin plastic can save our teeth; do you think there are no influences of using the plastic, especially when we eat? It comes down to this; our teeth are sensitive. So it is difficult to eat something when you have plastic in your teeth. Also I think some people will use the fluoridation instead of covering their teeth with plastic because the fluoridation is cheap and it does not take time to use it. In the end, I believe that there were some good points that I like, and I enjoyed to reading them, but I hoped the author would explain more about the plastic coving for the teeth.

the fluoride for adult

Reference:
Fluorides for adult. (1966, April, 8). Time magazine. From: www.time.com/time/magazine/article/o,9171,835286,00html.

Summary:
The article discusses the use of the stannous fluoride to prevent the tooth problems. Many dentists have suggested that the use of fluoride for adult is going to protect their teeth in future. For example, the Navy made a test for their patients, which’s they give the patients the stannous fluoride and a lecture on how to use the fluoride to protect their teeth. I addition, that technique helped a lot of patients to keep their teeth instead of drilling them or pulling them out. In the end, the Navy ends with 1.000.000.00 successful process of fixing the patients teeth.
Reaction:
I was very interested in this article because this is the first time I learned about the benefits of the stannous fluoride. Also, I liked when the author said the stannous fluoride helps the patients to a void teeth drilling; however there is one point that the author does not mention in his article, which is that people who smoke are the people who suffer most from teeth problem. And so does the fluoride help them to protect their teeth or should they quit smoking? In addition, dose the fluoride affect children? Is there any danger of It, or can everyone use it? I think there are many questions that the author did not discuss in his article, and so he need to explain more.
